Artwork title : Recomposition No. 15 | 2024

Recomposition No. 15 is a significant piece of my latest project, "New York City New BAUHAUS," where I explore how European trans-artistic movements have influenced the United States. The Oculus series, which differs from my earlier photographic works, investigates the intersection of architecture and art. In this collection, the photograph is not the primary focus but an essential element of the compositions, providing recognizable touch points to the world.

The piece deconstructs the Santiago Calatrava-designed landmark building at the World Trade Center Hub, revealing geometrical forms that echo the BAUHAUS movement. The BAUHAUS style is a crucial trans-artistic movement created in Germany in 1919. Despite the apparent contrast between the BAUHAUS style and Calatrava's style, which draws inspiration from Antonio Gaudí and Art Nouveau, the stripped-down structure reveals a connection through basic geometries, illuminating the evolution of artistic movements and sparking intrigue about the interplay of different artistic styles.

The artwork reflects the rich layers of culture, humanity, and urban space that define the Oculus landmark. Its unique architecture, a testament to the technology and understanding of humanity at different times, has altered the urban space, which now serves as a memorial, observation area, and meeting spot. My piece invites the audience to reflect on the human experiences that have shaped this space, reminding us that despite adversity, there is always an opportunity for growth and transformation. It sparks curiosity about the untold stories of the urban space and inspires a vision of a future where art and architecture work together to build a better world for all.
