Artwork title : Recomposition No. 11 | 2023

The New York City BAUHAUS: Oculus series, particularly Recomposition No. 11, embarks on the intriguing journey of representing a place's humanity. This unique blend of digital painting and photography artwork features the iconic Oculus building in downtown New York City, seamlessly blending them into a geometric composition.

Upon closer examination, the piece unveils a less abstract and more engaging narrative, reflecting the place's dramatic history. The photograph enriches the artwork with its added texture, light, and historical elements.

The central yellow triangle may represent a falling piece or a tall building with its shadow. The black lines forming stairs and the small forms moving up on the right side may symbolize the gradual and resilient process of rebuilding, recovery, and ascent from tragedy or a blockage. Meanwhile, the blue form partially concealing the stairs may point to the ongoing effects of the traumatic history that preceded them. However, amidst the somber undertones, the artwork's dominant bold reds and deep blues stand as a beacon of hope, representing the American spirit and the nation's collective strength. These vibrant colors infuse the picture with optimism despite the shadows of its past.

Each New York City BAUHAUS: Oculus series artwork has rhythm, color scheme, and meaning. The series invites the audience to explore layers of cultures, humanity, and landscape, seeing buildings with their architecture as modifications of urban space at a specific time. The artwork embeds a personal and collective memory of the place.

Recomposition No. 11, a digital collage of photographs and digital painting, is produced in five editions on archival pigment paper (Hahnemuhle Fine Art Pearl).
