"In Spring" is about a mysterious girl in a traditional Japanese kimono going into a field of diverse flowers. The fox mask, which represents magic in Japanese history and culture, juxtaposes against the soft and delicate flowers. I want viewers to be able to imagine lovely fields of flowers, the scent of spring, and feel hope and joy. The cherry blossoms were painted using a traditional Chinese brushwork technique, where I dipped the brush into three different colors (in layers), and used one brushstroke for each petal.
