In "Blooming", the lotus flowers are all vertical and at different heights. This is to symbolize strength and growth and hope. The flowers are not like real lotus on a flat water surface; instead, they are growing, they are strong and resilient. I used vibrant colors to depict the resiliency. I wanted the piece to feel energetic so I used very bright, vibrant colors. With my Chinese background, I really wanted to paint something from my roots. I remember visiting family in China and the lotus flowers were really beautiful in the water. I felt that they were so romantic and lovely.
