Artwork title : On a cold day, in a cold place

Every Saturday at 7 a.m., a worship service for the homeless is held at Jamsil Station—outdoors by Exit 3 in the warmer months, and in the underground passage during the colder seasons. In those gatherings, I longed for God to be present with us.

In lives that seem void of hope, I yearned for the hope that only God can bring.

During the service, I often imagined: What would this moment look like through the eyes of Jesus, standing here beside us?
This painting is not from a distant, heavenly gaze looking down, but from the intimate perspective of Jesus who stands at our side.

The scenes I’ve captured stem from a belief that God comes near—even to the most overlooked and broken places.

Jesus, during His time on earth, was always found among the marginalized. So I believe that even now, He is present at these gatherings, watching, dwelling, and sharing in our worship. The songs of praise, the sound of handbell carols, a warm cup of mixed coffee—these are not just fleeting details, but images held in the eyes of God.

To paint is to translate a fleeting moment into eternity. I hope these scenes are not forgotten but remembered. Though they may seem ordinary or easy to pass by, they contain the unseen presence of God. And while that presence may not be visible to the eye,

I hope that—through this painting—it might be seen.
