Artwork title : Harriet Jacobs: Journey to Saturn, Year 6

Saturn has been a destination for many Black thinkers from Henrietta Cordelia Ray to SunRa. Born in 1852, Ray writes an “Ode on the Twentieth Century,” which describes a visit to Saturn that reveals a thriving university where the secrets of the stars are revealed. In this video, Harriet Jacobs nearly reaches Saturn after over 6 years of hiding and reenacting a space analog mission with simulated microgravity caused by lying down. Through her exercise, she is able to walk away from that hiding place and run to freedom.
