Artwork title : Chlorophyll Trance II
Vegetal forms dissolve into an intensely chromatic field in which the familiar language of leaves and growth becomes almost unrecognisable. Through tonal inversion and close attention to light, Marcel van Beek releases plant life from descriptive photography and lets it operate as colour, rhythm and movement.
The image appears at once organic and otherworldly: a living structure that might also be read as a painting, a vision or a fragment of some imagined ecology. Its saturated greens draw the viewer in, yet the shifting contours refuse an easy sense of scale or depth.
This tension between attraction and disorientation is central to the work. Chlorophyll, ordinarily associated with vitality and renewal, becomes the starting point for a more ambiguous experience of nature. Rather than illustrating a botanical subject, the photograph asks how perception changes when the visual codes by which we recognise the natural world are quietly undone.
