Artwork title : Aftermath

Over the past 12 months I have worked on the interpretation of nature in Australia, whereby I create larger works by assembling small colorful elements into a single view of the subject matter. The objective is to portray and assemble the myriad of nature’s brilliant colors and textures, using recycled acetate sheets, cut into small squares of around 42mm.

The genesis for this work unfolded during conversations with a friend who owns a large property in country Australia. It concerned the description of his thoughts and vision as he fought to save farm assets during the 2019/2020 wildfires.

During further conversations, it became clear the images embedded in his memory were the intimidation and terror of the vivid fire-reds and the desolation and death inferred by the black textures of the fire aftermath.

Like my recent works exploring the life cycle of the Australian bush, I used 576 unique acrylic faced acetate squares and assembled the colors, textures and ferocity into a large compilation on 101cm x 101cm canvas.

The work has been LED back-lit to enhance the fiery brilliance and to highlight the random patterns of the charred flora. This piece can be both an artwork and a wall light.
