Glass fusing

Trapo Huichol, is a piece designed and made with glass powder on a glass base, using the glass fusing technique and modelled in the furnace to imitate a piece of fabric that is held by a hook made of bent and heat braided aluminum with a bright polished finish. It is held by an electro-painted-finish steel nail, all the pieces are mounted on a frame made of MDF (medium density fibreboard), painted with enamel.

The Trapo Huichol piece is part of the TRAPOS series. Playing with the spectator's perception, I wanted to evoke in the glass the qualities of different kinds of material through glass, in this case, those of cloth.

This cloth proposes a relationship with my national identity, as it evokes Mexico’s characteristic figures, colors, textures and contrasts that are part of our indigenous heritage, such as the work of the Huicholes (the major ethnic group of the state of Nayarit, Mexico).

Inspired by Huichol art, through this piece I show and feel the influence of my birthplace.
