Theme: Feminine power: Babylonians believed that walking backwards through Ishtar’s Gate would bring fortune and protection; Ishtar, a goddess of fertility, war, beauty, destruction, and birth, was someone you wanted on your side. Stars illumine the sky where irises, a symbol of royalty, bloom. The scene mimics an illuminated manuscript. Feminine power prevails. Brass rubbings from Isleham, England portray Lady Margaret Peyton, a noble lady of the 15th Century who observes the eight-pointed stars, representing Ishtar.
Primarily I use handmade papers, but also will use recycled papers and specialty paper found in packing materials.
