As an artist I operate at the intersection of presence and past. I confront contradictory styles, originated in different part of the world, rooted in various cultures. I restore old, often forgotten techniques in modern forms, opening the dialogue between tradition and contemporary art. This work was inspired with Japanese lacquer which uses many layers of wafer-thin, semi-transparent resin to create a surface of almost mystical radiance and sensual depth. This oriental technique was juxtaposed with shapes embadded in European Art Deco style, characterised by geometric and synthetic forms. The whole composition was completed with an immersed in resin, crumpled gold leaf, often used in laquered objects and Art Deco decorations. The work depicts the tension between mistical dimenesion and geometric, logical order, between destruction and beauty.
