Jana Buettner Germany Sculpture

My work showcasing a strong-minded man, full of willpower, clearness and hopefulness in his eyes but also seeing the  suffering and exhausted side in his body language feeling lost and trying to hold himself.

throughout the pandemic I could relate to my work even more than I would have thought when I started creating it.

Because of the sudden closure of the studios  I had to leave my work behind not knowing how long I will be gone or if it survives while I am away. during lockdown there was a constant worry that this piece will be dried out and broken

Because clay starts to shrink over time, it cracks and begins to weather. This shows a clear connection to human existence.

We humans are strong and resilient, that's how nature created us. We are part of it. We are no different from what surrounds us. A constant cycle of decline and growth. Our bodies will fall apart in the end. Much of us show weakness associated with frailty and experience

When I was able to return and unwrap the sculpture I had cracked around the neck and the hands but it was still in a pretty good state and I was able to fix everything I could relate to the cracks in my sculpture feeling lost and torn apart but still facing the future with hope.
