Heidi Brueckner United States Painting

This is from a series of expressionistic portraits which evoke intimate and individualistic narratives, and often include a layer of social commentary. I have been working exclusively on portraiture since the global health crisis because time with friends and loved ones is limited and the calling to capture them through the ritual of portraiture has been strong.

“Seeing Is Believing” depicts a dear friend whom I used to socialize with often, but have not seen since the pandemic. Paper bags were used as a base layer of the painting in an effort to recycle some of the bags that have been piling up in my home since the pandemic (we are not allowed to bring in used paper bags to grocery stores here).
