Dan O'Brien United Kingdom Mix Media

Dan O’Brien is a philosopher, author and editor of over ten books. He works mainly on the history of philosophy and epistemology, but has also published on Caravaggio and cubism. This submission is one of a series of ‘Blackboard Works’--mixed media representations of philosophical thought experiments. These works explore the spaces between philosophy and art, and between visualization and understanding—reflection on philosophical problems inseparable from one’s aesthetic experience of the artwork. ‘The China Brain’ is inspired by the thought experiment of Professor Ned Block (NYU) and it asks the viewer to question whether the project of artificial intelligence is possible.
