Axis Mundi is part of a series of works entitled Vinum Divinum. The symbolism of Axis Mundi is found in different cultures as a kind of support connecting heaven and earth and without which it is impossible to imagine earthly life. The painting depicts a ritual dance around the axis that gives life. It is not surprising that in Georgian culture this symbol is directly connected with the vine.  The cult of wine is linked to the sacred meaning of the vine for every Georgian.  The territory of Georgia is recognised as the birthplace of winemaking and to this day it is a deep part of Georgian identity. The axis as the basis of life has elements of the vine - the symbol of life in all its manifestations.
