Artwork title : children of the wind

Children of the Wind This photograph was taken on the promenade in Bregenz, Austria. A flock of seagulls flew very close to me. It was evening, and it was remarkable how near the birds came. It was as if they were inviting me to fly with them, to experience the freedom of the air—free from constraints, free from limitations, soaring through the vastness of Lake Constance. I have created many sculptures from the driftwood of the lake. Wood that is washed ashore, shaped by the water, often overlooked by most people who consider it mere waste. I want to show people what I see in these objects, just as with my photographs. These, too, are images of my perception of the surroundings, blended with emotions and impressions. I bring out these shapes and colors so they become visible to others. The inconspicuous things transform into faces, animals, humans, forms that can also be perceived by others. Suddenly, they are no longer inconspicuous but evoke the same feelings in others that I experienced. I strive to show the beauty of the inconspicuous. The moment I capture for everyone, which would otherwise be lost. My art is about freedom, the vastness reflected in the loss of boundaries. Free from societal constraints, free from pain, an escape from the clockwork of existence. When I walk with my family by Lake Constance, I take the time to enjoy the surroundings. I let myself be inspired by the lake and the flora and fauna of Lake Constance.
