Artwork title : Ethereal Guardian of the Shadowed Grove
When I first saw an image of a deer with albinism, I knew I had to paint one. I found myself wanting to create a solemn expression at first, but as I rendered it, it grew into something that was more at peace, reflecting my emotional fluctuations. I had never rendered anything white before, but I knew in representing white--a color that comprised all colors in their entirety--I had to exaggerate them. I wanted the deer to seem almost unreal, hence its exaggeratedly smooth skin. With the gloomy forest, I aimed to juxtapose its darkness to the deer's ethereal presence, to represent a beacon of light in the gloomy presence--to show hope when all things seem lost, much like the light of Catholic Church that lifted Europe out of the Dark Ages after the Bubonic Plague.
