Artwork title : Metamorphosis / Truth and Beauty
Metamorphosis/Truth and Beauty
2001//2022.
Work in the process - plaster casts from nature, clay, moss, wood.
Experimental own technique.
The artwork was created over the years, undergoing transformations many times.
The sculpture illustrated one of the poems of this brilliant and deeply connected poet Emily Dickinson.
I started growing moss in 2015, using plaster casts taken from a real fragment of nature, which is the female body, which I made in 2001 at the Center of Polish Sculpture in Orońsko. The works were part of my artistic graduation project "Metamorphosis of a woman-feminine metamorphoses" in the Intermedia studio at the Faculty of Visual Arts, Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź.
The objects were born in the beautiful scenery of Orońsko. The local red earth has become an indispensable material, a matter that plays a key role in the transformation process that has taken place.
Experimenting with matter, I developed my own, precise technique of gradually peeling off the "skin" to reveal what is invisible, hidden, inaccessible. What was important to me was the veristic character of the cast and materials related to nature, such as clay, earth, moss, grass.
Emily Dickinson 449
I died for Beauty -- but was scarce
Adjusted in the Tomb
When One who died for Truth, was lain
In an adjoining room --
He questioned softly "Why I failed"?
"For Beauty", I replied --
"And I -- for Truth -- Themself are One --
We Brethren, are", He said --
And so, as Kinsmen, met a Night --
We talked between the Rooms --
Until the Moss had reached our lips --
And covered up -- our names --
