Artwork title : A Dalgona

This work metaphorically expresses the situation of Korea’s division through the process of making and selling Dalgona. This work conveys a story about the influence of powerful countries and the vulnerability of small countries. This work is an artistic work that delivers a deep social message through everyday food like dalgona.

Dalgona is a Korean sugar candy made by caramelizing sugar and then adding a little baking soda to puff it up, then pressing it thin and stamping out shapes. If the buyer cleanly removes the stamped shape, the seller gives one more Korean street food.

The work is a video capturing the process of making and selling such Dalgona, intending to metaphorically express the division of Korea. The situation where a small country is divided by the influence of a powerful country is captured in the image of an American trying to pick out a Dalgona stamped with the Korean peninsula.
