There is complexity to the Mardi Gras/ Carnival experience: the exuberant, celebratory, culture-based experience of fun, frolic, fantasy and feathers, but there also exists the dark side of unavoidable corruption, debasement, over-indulgence, filth and acts of violence; the menace which lurks always under the veneer.
