Artwork title : Strappare
Oil on canvas, 81x116cm
Strappare, or "Tear" in English, is an inspection of the duality that every woman experiences. The scene takes place in a temple, outside lies a labrynth of dark corridors, difficult to navigate. The woman on the right is the portal from our world into this subconscious realm. She brings with her a white dress, intended to symbolize the entrapping expectation of purity that society brainwashes women into feeling. The woman on the left is the raw woman in all of us that silently battles the climbing vine constricting her. The woman on the right delicately attempts to weaken the plant by ashing her cigarette into it, unsure exactly which action to take but using a vice to cope with the stress. The constriction of the plant also carries with it a duality. While yes, it attempts to constrict the raw woman's sense of self, through this constricion it also brings growth: as it challenges her to tear these societal whisperings away from how she views herself and her body.
