Artwork title : Cruz

This Project is revolved around a very close friend. This past year, he published an autobiographical fiction novel under his Pseudonym Cruz Del Castillo. In which he has bravely discussed his relationship with god, which has changed drastically through his childhood as he came to terms with his sexual orientation. The liberation in writing the book came from his desire to rebirth a version of himself that no longer holds on to his pain as a little boy; Cruz is the safety and security who has been in waiting for a very long time. My photographic Project tells the story of Cruz's birth.

The actual death of Cruz is showcased in the photographs of Cruz standing in the center of a pond. His body and Clothes are covered in blood, hinting at drowning, as a suicide attempt often thought of by Cruz in his search for himself. The positioning of Cruz in the photograph was done because I wanted to showcase a frozen portrait of Cruz. That is a moment of resilience, all the pain and grief that had to be endured in the becoming of Cruz, the mighty protector.
