Artwork title : Mountain No.11
"Between Mountains and Rivers"
Lin Baixue has always been fascinated by natural landscapes, and in her works, she often depicts the mountains in her hometown of Zhangjiajie, Hunan, where the scenic Forest Park is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There, the peculiar and characteristic mountain shapes have been formed by the cutting and differential weathering of time and water.
In this work, she depicts a landscape in a rainy autumn. The mist transpires between the mountain peaks and forests, as in a fairyland on earth.
The way of expression is abstract and subjective. Everything is simplified using raw and natural forms rather than directly depicting all the details of the natural world.
The used technique is called monotype. Monotypes are single print works. Every piece of art is unique and unrepeatable. The scene is first painted on an acrylic panel, where the ink and the oil have the chance to move, rendering the actual movement of the water and wet vegetation. Finally, the color is transferred to the final support (cotton paper) by pressing the acrylic sheet against it.
