Mixed Media, Oil on Canvas with Collaged Papers

 

I created this piece with my family in mind. My mother is represented by the portrait and the organic shapes of the butterflies floating upward in the foreground, and my father is represented by the weaving of the geometric paint chips in the background. These shapes and lines contrast each other as the paint swatches are aligned in a straight left-to-right format, while the portrait and butterflies are free flowing and follow a linear line from the bottom left of the canvas to the top right corner. All of the elements of the composition overlap and weave into each other, demonstrating how my family is weaved into my very being, from my physical self to my last name, Weaver.
