Artwork title : Movement

Acrylic on paper, 70x50cm This is inspired by my upbringing and background in Sami society in the Arctic, in the north of Norway. It tells a story from a religious (Christian) meeting where we, the Sami people, were suddenly allowed to wear our costumes. For many years, we were suppressed by the state of Norway and were forced to wear Norwegian clothes. In the 80s, we were suddenly accepted to wear our costumes, speak Sami, our language, and practice our culture.
