Artwork title : Urban Veils (Triptych)

Three photographs turn a temporary construction interior into an enigmatic architecture of concealment. In the two square outer panels, scaffolding, protective sheeting and fluorescent light glow in muted gold. The wider central image reverses the tonal order: blue-white surfaces flare around a dark strip of light, making a familiar space suddenly difficult to read.

The change is not simply chromatic. It interrupts the viewer’s sense of depth, material and certainty. What was erected to shield a site in transition becomes a stage for an encounter with the unseen. The triptych’s balanced outer images and disruptive centre give visual form to a paradox: veils can both hide and reveal.

Working with the ordinary materials of urban transformation, Marcel van Beek evokes a suspended moment in which the city seems to shed its familiar identity. The three images hold together as one work, poised between construction and disappearance, exposure and secrecy.
