WRITTEN DESTINY vs DESTINY TO BE WRITTEN
Conceptual Proposal
Destiny Written vs. Destiny to Write is a conceptual sculpture that plastically materializes one of humanity's oldest existential controversies: the tension between inescapable determinism and free will.
The piece is composed of three complementary conceptual axes:
A Bed as Alpha and Omega: Represented from orthogonal purity, the bed acts as the container of the human biological cycle. It is the exact space where life begins and where, for most human beings, it inevitably ends. Beginning and end of a destiny.
The Mold and Multiplicity (The number 5): Above the bed rises a vertical rectangular plate: a matrix of origin that contains five voids in the shape of fetuses and includes vaginas from which floating fetuses emerge, joined by helical umbilical cords of different lengths. The number 5 breaks the stability of the material square to introduce movement and decision-making. The different lengths of the cords symbolize the variable duration of existence, suggesting that each human being emerges from an equality of origin, but holds a destiny to be accepted or to be built.
The Aristotelian Fair Mean: At the center of this controversy, the medium-length fetus is distinguished by being the bright bronze color without patina. Occupying the symmetrical axis of the number 5, this element embodies the Aristotelian "just mean" that considered may represent the human virtue of conscious acceptance; that one receives the cards, but one decides how to play them.
In conclusion, the work does not take sides with a definitive answer, but suspends in the mind of the observer the certainty of his position, in this eternal controversy.
