Artwork title : Light Script
On a surface marked by condensation, minute trails and moisture gather into lines that resemble an unknown script. Amber-yellow light moves across the marks, while darker forms suggest ink, roots or veins. Nothing has been written by hand: the apparent lettering emerges from water, residue and the play of illumination.
Marcel van Beek treats these fleeting traces as both material fact and imaginative possibility, allowing a commonplace optical event to become an image of emergence and disappearance. The photograph belongs to his exploration of water not only as a subject but as an active maker of form.
Its delicate structures invite close looking, yet no stable message can be deciphered. Meaning seems about to appear before slipping away. Poised between abstraction, calligraphy and natural process, the work proposes a quiet reversal of authorship: nature becomes the scriptor, while the artist attends to what it briefly reveals.
