Artwork title : The End of Time

Acrylic, gesso and paper collage on canvas, 2022, 107 x 92 x 4 cm (H x L x W).

One of my primary artistic interests is to investigate our relationship with the scientific, technological and societal changes occurring right now and to try to translate them visually and uncover their truths and/or unfolding.

For example, time and space do not appear to be fundamental properties of the universe, in that they change as the circumstances change. At the human scale though we are slaves of time, which seems to move inexorably forward. I tried to imagine what it would be like for us if time somehow broke down, or if we could put ourselves beyond the reach of time. Because space and time are intimately connected, we would presumably also not be ruled by space.

This painting attempts to connect space (represented by a galaxy and a nebula-like cloud) to time (symbolized by the timepiece at the top) through faint “tendrils”. It suggests that when we break free of our limitations, we would be connected to the whole universe.
