Artwork title : INSTAR - IMAGO
INSTAR – IMAGO began with a simple drawing. Through digital
and AI, the image gradually changes, accumulating lines, colour
and detail until a recognizable figure emerges. The transforamtion
continues, eventually breaking down into decay and distintegration.
My interest in this work lies in the notion of change as an ongoing
process, and in the possibilies of extending abstract art through
digitzation and AI. Digital tools and AI offer new ways to explore
the concerns of abstraction, allowing images to move beyond
their original forms and develop in unexpected directions.
Moving between abstraction and figuration, order and
disorder, formation and dissolution, the image undergoes
a succession of transformations. These changes refer not
only to the processes of growth and decay found in nature,
but also to our own shifting identities. Who we are is never
entirely fixed; our sense of self changes through experience,
circumstance, and the passage of time. Like the image
in the film, we are continually becoming something other than
what we were.
The title refers to stages in insect development, from instar,
a stage of growth, to imago, the mature form. In the film,
however, maturity is not a final destination. The emergence of a
recognizable form is temporary, and its eventual disintegration
returns us to the broader process of change itself.
