In October 2021, production on the American Western film production, Rust, was suspended after a firearms shooting incident. Rust: Blank Canvas graphically represents when cinematographer Halyna Hutchins died on set from a bullet fired by Alex Baldwin who believed it to be a blank. The artwork contrasts deliberate order and lack of control, reality versus perceived reality. Measuring 1000 x 800 x 30 mm, materials used in the production comprise MDF, faux ‘wood-panelling’, nails, metal, sand, stretched canvas, acrylic and enamel paint.
