Artwork title : Reaching

During this pandemic I have been escaping to the studio to avoid the helplessness of quarantining and locking down. There I am visually exploring my reactions to the current world. My abstractions of common items represent how everyday lives have experienced significant upheaval. Simple objects like bowls and vases can be both jarring and beautiful when experimenting with extreme ceramic techniques.

I have been blending or layering different properties of soil such as high-grade porcelain, non-porous stoneware, and porous earthenware to create a variety of patterns, textures, and colors in abstract forms. Although the contraction generated by this technique is challenging, I feel fresh and pleased with this uniqueness and the possibilities that I have found by cutting and pushing the mixed and layered soils to express complexity. While we are living in very trying times I am grateful to be able to explore my feelings through my work.
