With a background in social science, I aim to capture the lived experience of my subjects, with a pictorial representation of their situatedness: context within place and space. My photographs portray a specific moment in time, but also reflect a nuanced story that spans beyond that specific moment to the relationships the subject has with sentient beings, living organisms, and the world as a whole. The aim of the photograph is to inform and aid the viewer in finding an association—one that will allow us to learn, become more inclusive, and break the cycle of “othering” by finding our interconnectedness.
