Joanna Gorgolewska Poland Painting

Painting Orange01 comes from the Colours of Architecture series.
The architectural space that surrounds us consists of many more or less matching elements. What inspires me in architecture is the ability to freely separate these elements and build new, unlimited compositions from them. This is how my works from the Colours of Architecture series are created - multi-layered paintings with irregular shapes and dynamic forms.
I use the process of building new compositions and spaces in my work as a designer. However, in the context of my painting, it takes on a completely different dimension.
Although the path that I go through in the process of creating a painting seems planned, it often turns out to be unpredictable. It becomes an inspiration to create  new projects. Each composition is limited to one colour, but I use numerous tones of it. This conscious action - a seemingly cacophonic combination of different shades and various shapes - in effect is perceived as a coherent whole.
Colour is something that evokes various emotions, which is why I only name my paintings with  a colour and a number. Thus, I leave complete freedom of interpretation to the audience.
I create paintings from scratch by myself. After the design stage, it is time to work in the carpentry workshop. I cut out the planned shapes and polish the layers of the painting one after another. By combining them with each other, I achieve a dynamic and multi-layered composition. Only after this stage I can start painting. The entire process of creating a painting leads to a finished form, full of space and colour depth.
