Because of the sudden closure of the studios I had to leave my work behind not knowing how long I will be gone or if it survives while I am away. during lockdown there was a constant worry that this piece will be dried out and brake
Because clay starts to shrink over time, it cracks and begins to weather. This shows a clear connection to human existence.
We humans are strong and resilient, that's how nature created us. We are part of it. We are no different from what surrounds us. A constant cycle of decline and growth. Our bodies will fall apart in the end.
When I was able to return and unwrap the sculptureIt had cracked around the neck and the hands but I was still in a pretty good state and I was able to fix everything I could relate to the cracks in my sculpture feeling lost and torn apart but still facing the future with hope.
